Butterbase ("we," "our," or "us") operates the backend platform at butterbase.ai. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding it.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
When you sign up, we collect your name, email address, and a securely hashed password. We never store passwords in plaintext. If you sign up via Google or GitHub, we receive your name, email address, and account identifier from those providers.
API keys
When you generate an API key, we store only a SHA-256 hash - never the plaintext key itself.
Payment information
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers. We store your Stripe customer identifier, current plan, and billing history.
Usage data
We count API calls, storage used, and AI tokens consumed to enforce plan limits and power your usage dashboard.
Log data
We collect server logs including IP addresses, request timestamps, and error messages for debugging and security. Logs are retained for 30 days.
Communications
If you contact us for support, we retain your contact information and the contents of that correspondence.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Butterbase platform
- Authenticate your account and keep it secure
- Process billing via Stripe
- Send transactional emails (account verification, password resets, billing receipts, usage alerts)
- Debug errors and investigate security incidents
- Improve the platform using aggregated, anonymised usage patterns
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your information for advertising purposes.
3. Google User Data
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier. We use this information solely to authenticate you and create or link your Butterbase account.
We do not use Google user data for advertising. We do not share Google user data with third parties except as strictly necessary to provide the Service. We do not allow humans to read your Google user data except with your explicit consent or as required by law.
Our use of data received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. How We Share Your Information
We share personal information only with the following service providers, who are bound by confidentiality obligations:

5. Data Retention

6. Your Rights
You may request to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information at any time through the Butterbase dashboard. We will respond within 30 days.
Your app's database can be exported in standard PostgreSQL format at any time.
7. Security
We protect your information using TLS encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest for sensitive values, and SHA-256 hashing for API keys. Database clusters are VPC-isolated and not publicly accessible.
If we become aware of a security breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you promptly.
8. Children
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us through the dashboard.
9. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The "Last Modified" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
